Movie Review: Jaya Shambhu

Rahat Poudel, Kathmandu
Genre: Action/ Romantic/ Comedy

Cast: Anoop Bikram Shahi, Barsha Siwakoti, Prashant Tamrakar, Roshan Maharjan, Karuna Panday Jaya Shambhu,  written and directed by Rupesh Tamang (Theeng), is an action romantic movie with a slight hint of comedy. The star-studded cast lures the audience to the theatres but the frail storyline has left most disappointed.

The plot of the movie is based on Jaya's( Anoop Bikram Shahi) mission of stopping the antagonist Nir Shumsher aka Sarkaar (Prashant Tamrakar) from terrorising a village. The story intensifies when both Jaya and Sarkaar give their hearts to the female lead Shiksha ( Barsha Siwakoti).

Along with the leads, even the supporting cast members performed decently, but there are some scenes where the comic dialogue delivery fail to tickles the audience. Also, the cinematography is praiseworthy.  The drone shots have especially succeeded in portraying the scenic beauty of the village where the story is based in.

But what failed miserably is the action scene. Despite being an action-oriented movie, the fake gunshots and over exaggerated pain leave the viewers to question the authenticity in acting. It doesn't take much to understand that the inspiration behind the action scenes came from south Indian movies. Though the movie seems inspired from South Indian movies, it can easily be predicted.

In a nutshell, the movie is quite entertaining, especially because of the presence of big names of the Nepali movie industry. But the narrative is weak and below par.
